This poem was in the staff room at Canterbury House. It is now a well known poem especially throughout the care industry, although it is unclear whether it was written by a nurse or a patient - it is known by the senior's network as 'Mattie's Poem'. It is a good reminder for people who work in this area of care, and for people in general - I think a lot of people forget that older people are human too, and have had lives of their own. Care homes for the elderly are often seen as 'waiting rooms' and although your overall quality of life as you get older may deteriorate, I think this is generally quite an insensitive attitude to have.
